…is for New Orleans food, drinks, and fun.  That’s actually why we’re coming too ;)

We’ve made some major updates to the site to help you fulfill these goals.  Here’s a list of what’s new:
.

** Updates to the Event Schedule with added optional events throughout the weekend, including a “Welcome to New Orleans” mixer on Thursday night.  Check out the Event Map for a map view.
.

** “Local Area” section of the site is finally up!  Get to know the area before you arrive so you can make the most of your New Orleans experience:
.
………..…… ** New Orleans Traditions – Learn a few wedding and Mardi Gras traditions – we may be celebrating a few at our own wedding!
.
.
** New Orleans Dictionary – Practice the local lingo, many of which are Cajun/French inspired.
.
.
** New Orleans Food Dictionary – Food is a core aspect of the New Orleans culture, and reading a menu can be a daunting task.  Here’s some help to explain some delicious dishes.
.
.
** Wine & Dine – Just a few restaurant recommendations.  This was the most daunting list to create as there are a ton of choices in the city.  There’s plenty more that we didn’t list – you really can’t go wrong.
.
.
** Sights To See & Do – The city is full of culture and history.  Take some of your free time to explore the sites and sounds of New Orleans.
.
.
** Nightlife – Work in progress. Coming soon
.
.
(Disclaimer: Tom and Christina haven’t actually been to all of these places, but many of these are recs from local friends.  So these aren’t officially recommendations, but merely an aggregated list that will save you some Google search time or Lonely Planet reading.  If you have any to add, feel free to contact us.

.
Thank you to friends, Chrissy Billeaud and Louis David, Yelp, and Zagat for sharing your local expertise.

What’s in a name?

As we near the wedding, important decisions are emerging, such as the ever perplexing name change upon marriage.  So many options these days – bride takes groom’s name, bride keeps bride’s name, groom takes bride’s name, a compromising hyphenated name, or perhaps even a totally new name.

Here were some options we thought of, and we wanted your opinion.  No promises that we will take your opinion or not, but an entertaining exercise nonetheless.

We’re also open to other suggestions.  Click the “Post a Comment” link below and voice your vote!

Happy Birthday Mom / Me!

Just wanted to wish a very happy 68th birthday to my mom, Chau Nguyen!  She and my dad have been extremely supportive during all of the wedding buzz, and I am so grateful for their love and support to me and Tom.  (Side note: “Me” is mom in Vietnamese – I just can’t type the accent signs to reflect this.  I’m not wishing myself a happy birthday ;) )

This past Easter weekend was a perfect example of both of our parents’ love – my parents flew from Louisiana to D.C./ Vienna, VA to visit the White family.  Tom Sr. and Kathy hosted us to an amazing weekend – including an entertaining family dinner out, Easter mass and brunch, and, my favorite part, a fabulous bridal brunch/shower, which was co-hosted by Karina Fasullo and Robin Williams (2 dear friends of Elizabeth, Tom’s sister).

Thank you to the hostesses and Tom Sr. and Kathy for their hard prep work!  Everything was beautiful, and it was  the ultimate ladies day of mimosas and giggling over how precious a Starbucks coffee can be ;).  It was terrific to see all the ladies together again in spring colors and under Elizabeth’s shining, smiling sun.  Thank you Vienna family for welcoming me with such warmth and love.

Also, is it normal to have your shower cakes surpass your wedding cake?  This time, it was a delicious homemade cake baked and decorated by our own Kathy White.  The cake fit the Cherry Blossom theme of the day, which was (kind of) where Tom and I were engaged exactly one Easter ago.
